With the theme of the interaction between science, technology and society, the Research Institute of Science and Technology for Society has pursued a six-year plan starting in 2007 to adopt and support a number of research projects. To mark the fourth year of the plan, we have decided to hold an international symposium concerning our research projects.
In the symposium we will report on the progress and future direction of the eight projects adopted in this R&D area from the viewpoint of science and technology for society. We will also invite specialists from overseas to discuss the issues raised by these projects and their significance. All eight projects consider specific examples from within Japan involving the interaction of science and technology with society. Through this symposium, we hope to establish a relevant international research network.
The symposium will be held on August 24 on the day before the 35th Annual Meeting of the Society for Social Studies of Science (4S) scheduled for August 2010. We hope that the participants of the annual meeting will also take part in the symposium, making it an opportunity for intensive discussion.
